Tonight's SAB
Generally encouraging, focus was mainly on the academy system. Terry Westley gave a lengthy presentation on the academy set up and how from a very early stage (9 up) players are given personal development programmes.

Loans are made only when the club are satisfied it will develop them and they have targets for their stint while away in order to develop them and not just learn how to play League 1 or Championship football. Theyre also working on arranging agreements with European clubs who have good academy systems and will develop them technically. Time was obviously spent looking at Burke, Oxford, Cullen and Samuelsen.

The goal is to root the club back into the Academy system and to have 2 or 3 players from the Academy as starters when in the OS. They also want to be recognised as a top 6 academy in English football, significantly higher than now. The point was also made that youngsters now coming through on average have 10 Premier League games y the age of 24 so they will, if promising, be given the time to develop.

Other than that there was a discussion about whether to de-retire the number 6 shirt at the OS, which Noble would naturally take, and that's being tentatively put out to fans as an idea.

Discussion about a fanzone around the stadium.

Talk about expanding capacity to 60k but was relatively muted.

Aim is to be in regular competition for Champions League places within 2 years.

Also discussed ways of using the GAPS in a more useful manner, and i'll be emailing the club with ideas that have been generated on architecture forums.

Finally, we are allowed two EVENTS in pre-season rather than two matches, so was confirmed we could hold an Emirates cup style weekend competition of four clubs (two games per event rather than just two games). They claim that theyre working solely on the Noble testimonial for now and little thought has been given to pre-season. However they also did say that there's no need for a test event so the OS could hit the ground running with a mini cup style event.

sorry for that.....League 1 or Championship football. Theyre also working on arranging agreements with European clubs who have good academy systems and will develop them technically. Thanks for that.

What a stinking idea to propose de-retiring the shirt on the day before Bobby died. Awful idea.

Re: Tonight's SAB
They can knock that idea of de-retiring No6. Right into touch.!

As for the 60k+. It's dawning on them all now. That."If you build it. They will come." Is happening with OS. Let's see what happens after the first season buzz.?

Cheers for the updates Grav.

Or, if you get someone else to build it... they will come.

Much better idea.

Re: Tonight's SAB
I don't like the retiring numbers thing. It's a thick, schmaltzy act of grief, just waiting to be outdone with some another schmaltzy grief leeches, where eventually players have no numbers under 100 and every game has 90 minutes silence for people they were never alive to see.

I wouldn't reinstate the number though, as the decision was made and it's disrespectful to go back on it.

Re: Tonight's SAB
nothing to do with grief. all to do with respect and recognising the greatest players at a club. many sports do it, and most of the time whilst the player is alive

To be fair they made the point of his passing and said this would only be considered next year, if at all.

Of course it is an act of grief. A gesture for a loss that is held in high regard.

Where do you draw the line though? How many statues and stands etc are enough?

I'd rather have died on the pitch playing for WHU, with the shirt number worn after than retired. I find more respect in wanting to emulate a player and wear a famous number than it be deleted.

Your memories might be at the BG but your heart should always be WHU, wherever. Otherwise what is the point?
